Setting up Secure WIFI - On Campus

First, connect your device to Brown-Guest wifi. Next, visit wifi.brown.edu and follow the on screen prompts.

VPN - Home

The VPN client is pre-installed on Brown-owned computers. If you need to install the VPN on a personal machine, the installer can be found here (search for F5):

Software

If you’re using a Brown-provided computer, the machine has a pre-installed app called Software Center (must be connected to VPN for use). Inside here, there are numerous 1-click installs for a variety of software titles. If a title is unavailable or won’t work through Software Center, downloadable software is available from:

Folder Redirection - Network Home Folder - Files.brown.edu

If you are using a Brown-Issued laptop, your machine is configured for a “redirected home folder”. This means that files stored in “Desktop, Documents, Downloads, etc” are actually stored on the files.brown.edu server. In the case of your laptops, there is a cached local version on your machine, and your machine will sync to the server while connected to the VPN. I recommend connecting to the VPN often to ensure that your machine is backed up to the server. There are numerous names for this (as mentioned in the subtitle above). These files are also able to be accessed remotely.

Here is some info about the service
